Already Have an Agency?
If you already have a primary or placement agency, Hand in Hand can still provide local training, home study, and post-placement services for families in Colorado, Indiana, Utah, and Florida.
Post-Adoption Coaching
Adoption does not end at finalization. Hand in Hand connects families with experienced adoption professionals — most of them adoptive parents themselves — for coaching on challenges including:
Attachment issues
Unexpected diagnoses
Special educational needs
Behavioral issues
Birth history searches
Communication challenges
Post-adoption struggles
Parenting LGBTQ+ children
Coaching sessions are held by video chat on an as-needed basis. A free initial consultation is followed by 60-minute sessions at $75 each. To schedule your free consultation, email Steve at steve@hihiadopt.org.
Training
Hand in Hand provides the 30–35 hours of required adoptive parent training. Training covers immigration, the home study process, types of children available, attachment and bonding, transracial and transcultural adoption, medical considerations, core issues in adoption, parenting skills, and more. Families in states where Hand in Hand is not licensed complete training through their local home study agency.
Lifelong Community
Bringing your child home is the beginning of a lifelong commitment. Hand in Hand families connect with each other at trainings, events, summer camps, and through social media. We have also partnered with Creating a Family to provide an extensive collection of training resources free of charge to all current and former Hand in Hand families. Contact us for the coupon code.

Common Questions About the Process
How long does the adoption process take?
International adoption timelines vary by country and program, typically ranging from 1 to 4 years. Factors include home study completion, country-specific requirements, and administrative processes.
What are the general requirements to adopt?
Requirements vary by country but generally include: being at least 25 years old, a completed home study, background checks, financial stability, and in some cases, marital status requirements. Our team will walk you through the specifics for your chosen program.
